How far in advance should I order my wedding or occasion cake?

As a rule of thumb, it is always best to make a booking as soon as possible to avoid disappointment so as soon as you have a date for your event.

As a guide, wedding cake bookings should be made at least six weeks in advance. This would allow me enough time to create the design and source/make any required specialty ingredients or decorative elements.

The same time frame apply for other large orders.

For smaller cakes, however, I recommend that bookings are made at least two week in advance.

If you need a cake earlier than the timeframes mentioned above, just get in touch as soon as you can and I’ll try our best to accommodate your request, however keep in mind that in such a situation design options may be limited.

Do you need to make payment when placing an order?

Yes!

I require a non-refundable 25% deposit on all orders over £100. £25 if the order is less than £100.

Wedding cakes require £100 deposit to secure the booking. Once the deposit is made, your order is secure.

The balance is due 7 days before collection/delivery for celebration orders and 4 weeks for wedding orders

What does a wedding cake cost?

What are the different kinds of cakes you make?

All my cakes are layers of sponge and fillings, covered and finished with ganache or ganache and a top thin layer fondant/sugar paste.

What size cake do I need?

It depends on a number of factors such as how many people are attending the event, if the cake would be served as the only main dessert or as a buffet.

I can help you figure it out once you have this information.

For weddings, If you are planning to keep the top tier for your anniversary, the cake will be larger as the top tier will not be included in the calculation of serving sizes.

Take a look at our sizing guide as a starting point.

I have an image of the design I want. Can I send you that image and you replicate it?

Yes you are welcome to send an image.

No, I do NOT replicate like for like other people’s or even mine. Instead I provide you with your own unique creation based on your chosen aesthetic.

I’m happy for you to send an image as it gives me a clear visual idea of your preferences after which I will work to create something unique for you.

How are your cakes designed?

The design process starts with you providing me with all the important stuff like the event themes, colours and preferred styles, fabric swatches, stationery, or details of the flowers to be used at your event so I can coordinate the design.

Be sure to let me know anything you DO NOT want on our cake too.

After gathering all this information, I come up with a draft design and a quote for the design which I will send to you for approval.

Once you approve the design, we are ready to make sweet things happens!

You are also welcome to send your own sketch which we will endeavour to create.

Am I limited to the cake designs on your website?

No! The photographs on our website are examples of work we’ve done in the past. If you name it, we will endeavor to create it.

Can you match my colours?

I will work hard to create a colour(s)that closely resembles the colors you provide but do not guarantee exact color match. For best match please send us an actual fabric swatch as colours often look somewhat different on different screens.

Can we have a cake tasting?

Yes I offer tasting service for our wedding clients. Usually, you are either invited to a Zoom consultation and will have been provided with a tasting box in advance by post.

Periodically provide tasting boxes, available for anyone to purchase. Please contact me for details of our next batch.

Are cake stands available?

Yes! I hire them out, however, they incur a refundable cash deposit upon pick up.

I have a collection of beautiful yet sturdy cake stands and platters that can (safely!) elevate your cake to make it the centerpiece of your event.

I will be happy to discuss about the appropriate size, colour, finish, and shape to best display your cake.

Why are some cakes more expensive than others?

Basically, the factors that dictate the pricing scheme of a cake are as follows: Cost of the ingredients: The ingredients that go into your cake such as chocolate, gold and silver leaves, dried fruits are a significant contributor towards the cost of a cake. This cost is incorporated into the quote.

Time: The time required to create your specific design is also considered. A simple design takes less time and effort while more complicated designs require working with sugar flowers or intricate detailing or structure work. The more time it takes to design a cake, the more expensive it would be.

Size: The third factor to consider when looking at the cost of a cake is the size of the cake. A cake that will serve 150 people will definitely cost more than one that serves only 20. Similarly, a cake to serve 150 dessert portions will be more costly than serving the same number of coffee portions.

TIME TO BEGIN YOUR DELICIOUS CAKE JOURNEY

Worth Every Penny

Chi made my daughter a beautiful blue unicorn 18 cake, with red velvet sponge and white chocolate ganache and buttercream.

It was truly wonderful and worth every penny it was such a shame to eat it, a beautiful piece of art. I would recommend Chi every time to get a cake like this certainly shows stopper of a cake.

Chi has the professionalism of high standards with allergies and hygiene. From start to finish she made sure to keep utmost care even when transporting the cake home making sure packing would protect the cake.
